ABOUT ME…
ABOUT VALKYRIE…
Hello! My name is Bailey Kinsky and I am the sole conservator and owner of Valkyrie Conservation here in Minnesota. I have a M.A. degree with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Art Conservation from the Patricia H. and Richard E. Garman Art Conservation Department at SUNY Buffalo State College.
After three years of completing my graduate education, I have moved back to my home state of Minnesota with my husband (and our three cats). We have just bought our first house in Stillwater, which has the perfect spot for me to create my lab/studio space for Valkyrie Conservation.
I fell in love with the treatment of books because of their dual nature- function and aesthetic. The goal of my work is to preserve as much of the historical integrity of a binding while still allowing it to function so that we may access the content of its pages.
So whether it be a Nuremberg Chronicle or your grandmother’s cookbook- I would love the opportunity to work with you to preserve our cultural heritage.
I chose the name ‘Valkyrie Conservation’ to pay homage to Viking country! Valkyrie (VAL-ker-ee) were strong female spirits in Norse mythology who served the Norse God, Odin. They would appear on the field of battle and choose worthy fallen warriors to join Odin in Valhalla (hall of the fallen) in Asgard.
My studio is located on my property in Stillwater where we have a converted loft above the garage. I have worked to provide a space with adequate environmental controls and chemical storage so that I can provide the best treatment options for your objects.
